Moving from MacOS to Linux Mint

Using Linux Mint on a daily basis

Last year, I decided to move away from MacOS, as well as my reliance on Big Tech’ platforms more generally. I started to use Linux as my desktop operating system: I wanted the freedom to choose how I did my computing. After over a decade on MacOS, the jump was far less jarring than I expected. Here’s my story.

After a period of inevitable ‘distro-hopping’ last year, I settled on Linux Mint for both my desktop and laptop machine some time ago. After using Mint on an ancient MacBook Air last year, I was confident that I could rely on the operating system for my work laptop and Minisforum desktop.

System Info on Linux Mint

I customise quite heavily the Cinnamon desktop environment, but only with tools Mint gives you out of the box. I have adopted a theme called Qogir-Dark: a awful name for a slick and modern looking desktop. The icons are from the Kora collection. Again: none of this stuff was cloned in some complex way from a GitHub repository, it was all there in Mint when I installed it.
