Growing services revenue is destroying the brand

Having sat down for dinner, I thought a little music might be nice. I picked up my iPad, tapped the Music app and was greeted by this screen:

Apple Music app for iPad. Don’t hate me for my low battery!

“Oh, yeh, that free trial ran out’, I thought. No problem, I’ve music saved on the iPad. Let me just clear that banner, though: I go to tap the tiny, tiny ‘x’ on the top right: the Apple Music renewal screen appears. I must have missed it, let me try again: nope. Every time I try to tap that ‘x’, I get routed to the renewal screen.

This isn’t the first time this sort of thing has happened, where Apple’s services have diverted me from what I was doing. Every time I go into my phone’s settings, I have a red circle with the number ‘2’ in the middle of it: ‘Services Included with Purchase’.

Free Apple services: where’s the option to say ‘no’?

Notice that there is no option that says ‘no’ or perhaps by this point ‘GTFO of my phone’: only ‘Accept 3 Months Free’ or ‘Not Now’, as if the services are so interesting that like Terminator, they will be back.

I’ll head back to my Mac. Perhaps I’ll watch a TV show I purchased back in day when people used iTunes. I tap the…
